    • Clinical examination (drug history, vascular, neurological, genital) including prostate assessment
    • Midstream Urine (MSU) (Dipstix)
    • Blood Urea & Electrolytes and Creatinine (To assess the kidney function)
    • Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA)Test
    • Blood lipid screen
    • ECG/stress test
    • Endocrine (hormone) profile: Prolactin and Testosterone
    • Psychological assessment in deep-seated psychological problems
  4. Discussion of the findings and advice

The International Society of Sexual Medicine has classified causes and the summary is given below:

  • Psychogenic: generalised unresponsiveness, inhibition, partner related, performance related, depression and death of a partner
  • Organic: Neurogenic, hormonal, arterial, venous (cavernosal), drug induced
  • Combined organic and psychogenic (most common type)
