Bladder Issues: Bladder Treatment and Diagnosis

Its main function is storage of urine. It stores urine (reservoir) for a specified period of time and the bladder muscle (‘detrusor’) contracts enabling the bladder to empty its urine.

Bladder Symptoms


There may not be any symptoms with bladder problems. Some of the manifestations are:

  • Abdominal pain, mainly in the bladder area just above and behind the pubic bones
  • Pain while passing the urine (dysuria)
  • Urinary frequency
  • Urge to pass urine
  • Urinary leakage
  • Smelly urine
  • Blood in the urine
  • Not producing any urine (Anuria)

Other (Non bladder) symptoms include:

  • Fever with or without shivering
  • Tiredness and feeling unwell
  • Feeling sick
  • Anaemia
  • Weight loss

Bladder-related Problems
